this one goes out to the fellas.

This week’s edition of SSW, street style wednesday is dedicated to all the men who are holding it down on the style front day in and day out.  In a modern age where most interaction happens via the internet, many gripe that men no longer put in the effort to dress well (have you seen an episode of Mad Men or Boardwalk Empire??)  This post is for the unsung heroes.  the modern day gentlemen.

packing for a weekend getaway: SXSW edition

Whether you’re counting down the minutes till you can break free for the weekend or planning your next getaway thanks to some good weather, here’s a sneak peek into what we’re packing for our trip.  SXSW style.

Must-have wardrobe essentials you can wear year-round.  Perfect for our transitional winter-spring weather or jetting off to warmer climes.  Next time you’re packing for a trip (which is hopefully later today) keep these tips in mind:

    • light-weight and layered: be prepared for any adventure with light-weight pieces that can be layered for colder weather or more formal occasions (ie. button-ups, heathered shawl cardigan, cognac blazer)
    • weekend bag:  this is a cross between your backpack and a carry-on.  perfect for a weekend getaway.  If you don’t already own one, you should in leather or canvas.  Ours is a classic Ralph Lauren navy canvas with cognac leather trim.
    • texture/pattern:  keep it interesting with patterns or textures for an added pop and quick ways to change up your look paired with the essentials. Hot prints for spring: plaid, tropical floral, bandana and camo.

Throw in a couple button-ups, socks, and a pair of pants (or shorts for the sartorial crowd) and you’re good to go.  As we say here at W H I M, dress for a successful weekend.

Happy President’s Day!  Last month thanks to Free Museum Day we were able to spend the day taking in the arts at LACMA.  We visited many old favorites (Picasso, Kandinsky, Sargent) and discovered a few new ones.  We highly recommend checking out “Agnes Varda in Californialand” exhibition featuring the “grandmother of french new wave”.  Although we should warn you it’s a little nsfw ;)

FYI Thanks to Target everyone receives free admission to LACMA today!

Juggling roles as a new mom and an action star in a blockbuster franchise (did I mention Miss Israel??), Gal Gadot is already playing Wonder Woman offscreen so it comes as no surprise to me that she landed the role of Wonder Woman in the upcoming film “Batman vs Superman”.  If there was ever a woman who could go toe to toe with those heroes it’s definitely Gal =)

    Congrats Gal!!!

  9. Green is the New Black

Team Gabriel was very excited to have a spot on GQ’s 10 Best Dressed list this Monday.  In honor of the recognition I’ve gone ahead and put together a breakdown of how to achieve Gabriel Mann’s winning look (baby blue eyes and golden hair not included).

The real star of this look is the gorgeous forest green Richard Chai Love check? printed shirt.  Bold pattern in a familiar sexy, manly color.  Now not everyone’s lucky enough to get their hands on Richard Chai, so I’ve substituted with a less funky but equally sexy Zara plaid shirt.  Offset the print with a TopMan green skinny tie that doesn’t quite match and pair with a light grey Thom Browne herringbone textured suit.

And finally that unexpected BOLD pop of color courtesy of a blue silk pocket square (that is actually 4 shades of blue!)  This look is all about bold and interesting choices creating a rich look as each component comes together.  Complete product details below.

2013 American Music Awards - Best Dressed (IMO)

    1. Taylor Swift: wearing Julien Macdonald.

Gold, metallic shine, smokey eyes and a 70’s Rock and Roll esque shaggy hairstyle are the epitome of music awards to me.  Shedding her bubblegum image for something more diva-worthy and looking like a trophy herself, I’d say Ms. Swift is channeling some of her own Sasha Fierce.

    2. Katy Perry: wearing Oscar De La Renta

I LOVE Katy for wearing Oscar De La Renta!!  Couturiers like Oscar create magical garments meant for the red carpet and while this frock was from his Spring 2014 Collection it lacked no drama or volume.  Her accessory choices were bold and quirky, perfect in making this dress her own.

    3. Lady Gaga: wearing Versace riding in on a white MANNED horse!?

Yes Gaga looked pretty channeling Donatella Versace but who really cares when she is SERVING some Bianca Jagger Studio 54 REALNESS!!  (Ms. Jagger still wins because she made her birthday entrance on an actual white horse.)
